Simple Maintenance Points for Wastewater Pump Use

Wastewater pumps often work in water that is not clean, so small maintenance habits can affect service life. Before starting, the cable, seal area, outlet flange, and bolts should be checked. A pump should not run for a long time when the water level is too low, because heat and seal wear can rise quickly. If the pump sound changes or the current becomes higher than usual, it is better to stop and check the impeller and passage before the problem grows.

In regular use, the wet well should be cleaned when too much sand or fiber builds up. The check valve and guide rail coupling also need inspection, because poor seating can cause backflow and vibration. When a pump is stored as a spare unit, the impeller should be turned by hand from time to time if possible, and the cable end should stay dry. These steps are basic, but they help avoid many common site troubles.
